Full Lesson – Sultans of Swing – Dire Straits
In the key of Dm
Sultans of Swing is a super guitar song! I admire you for having the
ambition to want to play it! The solo is considered to be one of the
most advanced solo’s out there! But don’t feel worried, with enough
practice I am confident you will be able to play it! I remember when I
was 10 years old, my guitar teacher (John vanGowler) taught me how
to play this. When he demonstrated the ‘fast’ solo at the end, I was so
amazed that I cried with excitement! I couldn’t believe that I was
actually going to learn how to play the song that I had been listening
to everyday since I was 9! I’m sure you will enjoy this lesson. I will
demonstrate the chords, strumming patters and both the main solos.
Have fun! Ben
In this song, I have shown you chord parts as well as lead parts.
There are many points in the sequence where you can choose to play
chords or lead. For example, in the chorus, I have given you the
chords, but you could also choose to look at the tab and play the lead
parts instead. And as well as that, I have shown you the lead solo’s,
but you could choose to play the chords to accompany the solo. I
think you will find the sequence below useful!
